Connect WeCom to SetupClaw

Follow this guide to set up a WeCom (WeChat Work) bot powered by OpenClaw. WeCom uses QR code binding — your bot is ready the moment you scan.

Prerequisites

  • SetupClaw APP installed on your computer
  • A WeCom (WeChat Work) workspace with admin access
  • OpenClaw configured with at least one AI model provider

Setup Steps

1

Step 1: Create a WeCom Bot

Log in to your WeCom admin console at work.weixin.qq.com. Navigate to Application Management and click Create Application. Set the bot name and description to something your team will recognise. Once created, note down the Bot ID and Secret — you will need them in the next steps.

  1. aGo to work.weixin.qq.com and log in with your admin account
  2. bNavigate to Application ManagementCreate Application
  3. cEnter a bot name and description
  4. dNote the Bot ID and Secret from the application details page
2

Step 2: Configure API Permissions

Before connecting to SetupClaw, ensure your WeCom bot has the correct API permissions configured.

  1. aEnable message receiving callback in the bot settings
  2. bSet the allowed IP whitelist if required by your organisation
  3. cEnable the bot to receive and send messages
3

Step 3: Enter Credentials in SetupClaw

Open SetupClaw APP and add WeCom as a new channel. The app will handle plugin installation automatically.

  1. aOpen SetupClaw APPChannelsAdd ChannelWeCom
  2. bEnter the Bot ID and Secret you noted earlier
  3. cSetupClaw installs the WeCom plugin via npx automatically
4

Step 4: QR Code Binding

After plugin installation, SetupClaw generates a QR code. Scan this code with your WeCom mobile app to bind the bot to your account.

  1. aWait for SetupClaw to display the QR code on screen
  2. bOpen the WeCom mobile app on your phone
  3. cScan the QR code to bind the bot to your WeCom workspace
  4. dThis links the bot to your account — no further pairing is needed
5

Step 5: Verify Connection

Once the QR code is scanned successfully, the bot is automatically activated. No separate pairing step is needed — WeCom skips pairing entirely.

  1. aConfirm that SetupClaw shows the channel status as connected
  2. bFind the bot in your WeCom contacts
  3. cSend a test message to the bot and verify it responds

Key Notes

  • WeCom uses QR code binding instead of pairing codes (unlike Feishu)
  • The bot is ready immediately after QR scan — no additional pairing step is required
  • Closing SetupClaw APP does not stop the bot — it continues running via the OpenClaw gateway

Troubleshooting

QR code not generating

Check that the OpenClaw gateway is running. Try restarting the gateway from the SetupClaw Dashboard.

Bot doesn't respond

Verify the Bot ID and Secret are correct. Check the IP whitelist settings in the WeCom admin console.

QR code expired

Generate a new QR code by disconnecting and reconnecting the channel in SetupClaw.
