Getting Started on Mac

From zero to a fully working AI assistant — no command line needed

What You Need

  • A Mac running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later — Apple Silicon or Intel
  • An internet connection
  • An AI model API key (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini)

Step 1: Download SetupClaw APP

Purchase and download SetupClaw APP from our website.

  1. aVisit setupclaw.uk/app and click "Get Started — £70"
  2. bComplete the checkout process
  3. cCheck your email for the download link
  4. dDownload the .dmg file for macOS

Step 2: Install the App

Install SetupClaw APP on your Mac.

  1. aOpen the downloaded .dmg file
  2. bDrag SetupClaw to your Applications folder
  3. cLaunch SetupClaw from Applications
  4. dIf macOS shows a security warning, right-click the app and select "Open"

Step 3: Environment Check

SetupClaw automatically checks your system and installs everything needed.

  1. aRead the safety notice and click Confirm
  2. bSetupClaw will check for Node.js — if it's missing, it installs it automatically
  3. cSetupClaw will check for OpenClaw CLI — if it's missing, it installs it automatically
  4. dIf you have an existing OpenClaw setup, SetupClaw can import your configuration
  5. eWait for all checks to complete — this usually takes 1-2 minutes

Unlike manual installation, you don't need to open Terminal, install Homebrew, or run any commands. SetupClaw handles everything behind the scenes.

Step 4: Configure AI Models

Choose which AI models you want to use.

  1. aThe model configuration page opens automatically
  2. bBrowse the full OpenClaw model catalog
  3. cSelect a provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, etc.)
  4. dEnter your API key or use OAuth to authenticate
  5. eSome providers like Google Gemini support one-click OAuth — no API key needed

Step 5: Connect IM Channels (Optional)

Connect your messaging platforms so you can chat with your AI assistant through Feishu, DingTalk, QQ, or WeCom.

  1. aChoose your preferred messaging platform
  2. bFollow the in-app guide to enter your channel credentials
  3. cSetupClaw automatically installs the required plugin and configures the connection
  4. dSend a test message to verify the connection

You can skip this step and connect IM channels later from the Dashboard.

Step 6: Start Using Your AI Assistant

You're all set! Your AI assistant is ready to use.

  1. aChat directly in the SetupClaw desktop client
  2. bOr use your connected IM channels (Feishu, DingTalk, QQ, WeCom)
  3. cMonitor your assistant's status from the Dashboard
  4. dClosing the SetupClaw window does NOT stop your AI assistant — it keeps running in the background

    Go to Dashboard → Models to add more AI providers

  • Connect more channels

    Go to Dashboard → Channels to add more IM platforms

  • Manage skills

    Go to Dashboard → Skills to discover and install OpenClaw skills

  • Create backups

    Go to Dashboard → Settings → Backup to save your configuration
